show with MAEL

Join the Fun at MAEL

Showing with MAEL means partnering with a community of schools, students, mentors, and motivators who support  students and help  turn independent athletes into team players. We can't wait to welcome yours to the family!

Horseback riding is typically a solo sport, so most young riders never get the chance to be on a team. Our goal is to give these athletes the opportunity to reap the rewards of riding together, so we've created a team-oriented equine experience that connects, supports, and empowers equestrian athletes. Unlike other showing series where barns compete against other barns, MAEL gives students a chance to do the sport they love for their school.

Starting a Team

It's very easy to start an equestrian team. Teams can be made up of any number of students (even 1!), and MAEL allows both equestrian clubs and teams to compete. Many schools start off as a club and then evolve into a varsity sport once they see how may students participate and how simple it is to sustain the team.

MAEL runs the entire academic year, which is great for riders to work on their showing skills. Riders need to be in grade 5-12 and have at least one year of horseback riding experience. Your school doesn't need any extra insurance because the host barn has it handled.

  • Start any time during the season.
  • You don't need to own your horse, but you may bring your own if you wish.
  • Register one show at a time.
  • Participate in as many (or as few) shows as you want.
  • No minimum or maximum number of members participating as a team at each show.

Fun at the Shows

We love seeing school spirit displayed at our shows! Many of our teams represent their school by riding with a saddle pad bearing their school name. Outside of the ring, riders support their teammates by rocking equestrian team apparel, such as jackets.

Our shows are like an all day tournament with a friendly, festival vibe - we even have a food truck! Many teams bring banners to hang or set up tents outside the ring. Some shows have a theme, and we often have fun games and prizes.

Back at School

This may be the first time many riders have the chance to represent their school while competing in their sport. Ribbons may be displayed in award cases, show results can be announced during morning announcements or assemblies, and their picture can be published in the yearbook. These young athletes work incredibly hard and should have their dedication recognized and rewarded!
