Maryland Academic Equestrian League

The Maryland Academic Equestrian League is a newly-formed organization - formerly called the Insterschool Horse Show Series (ISHS).  It's for riders in 5th through 12th grade to compete against other schools. You can bring your own horse to the shows, or lease one. We offer five divisions ranging from crossrails all the way up to 2'6 - so something for everyone! Shows start in  October and run through February, and awards are given out each show for the top schools, as well as high-point riders. In March we have our Invitational Show, where the top 8 riders from each division are invited back to compete. We also have a Equitation Clinic Show in September to get everyone ready for the season. Shows are held in Poolesville, Maryland at NFF Stables in their huge indoor arena, making it not only a central location, but the perfect setting for school-year shows.

Why MAEL?

• You don't have to own a horse - and if you do, you can show your own!
• You get a chance to participate in the sport you love for your school. Many riders give up organized sports so they can ride - but by participating in MAEL you don't have to! 
• You can show as a team, a club, or even as an individual rider if your school doesn't have a team or club.
• There's not a huge time commitment - shows are once a month. You do have to be enrolled in riding lessons throughout the school year, however, and your instructor has to sign that are you taking lessons
